“Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the belief that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which are believed to correspond to all organs and parts of the body. Some practitioners may also include work on points found in the face and ears. Reflexology works on an individual basis and may alleviate and improve symptoms such as everyday stress and tension”.

During a typical reflexology session the reflexologist will take a detailed medical history. Sessions are usually performed in a comfortable chair or couch. If it is to be performed on the feet, the client will be asked to remove footwear and socks but other forms of reflexology require no removal of clothing. The practitioner will make a visual and tactile examination of the area to be worked before beginning the precise reflexology massage movements. The particular types of movements involved require the application of an appropriate pressure using the thumb and fingers.

Reflexology can be a wonderfully relaxing experience where you can take time out from everyday pressures. The therapist’s expert touch will help you relax which can help improve mood, aid sleep and relieve tension. The result is an overall sense of wellbeing.”

The ancient healing art of reflexology has been known to man for many thousands of years. It is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy that was first thought to be practiced by the early Egyptian people. There is evidence that the Chinese and American Indian people used similar techniques also.Reflexology is believed to work by stimulating pressure points to encourage the body’s own healing potential; I work on the feet using a specific massage technique, however other therapists may work on hands, ears or face. Reflexology is a truly holistic treatment that aims to work alongside allopathic healthcare to promote better health.

Is reflexology suitable for me?

Reflexology is a therapy which can be received by anyone at any age, from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between. However, there are occasionally times when it is not suitable to provide a treatment and as a Professional Reflexologists I do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. Reflexology is a very individual treatment which works with you holistically, so it is not possible to know in advance how you will react.

Will reflexology help me?

The theory is that reflexology helps the body to restore its balance naturally. Usually, after a treatment your tension may be reduced and you might feel relaxed. You might also notice yourself sleeping better and find your mood and sense of wellbeing improving. You may also find that other aspects improve too; however, this happens on an individual basis and is not the same for everyone. With ever increasing levels of stress in everyday life, it is important for people to take more responsibility for their own healthcare needs. Reflexology may be one of the ways to mitigate the stresses of modern life.

Note :There has been some positive research projects carried out with reflexology; however, as yet, there is not a large enough body of evidence for us to make clinical claims of effectiveness.

Applied Kinesiology (pronounced kin easy-ology) is the science of muscle testing in relation to all body functions, and has been developed from a system of structural muscle testing used by the orthodox medical profession.

Originally Kinesiology was simply the study of movement, particularly of the human body. The original kinesiological muscle tests were used by physiotherapists to test the range of movement, power, and tone of various muscles, especially in injury and stroke cases.

The science of Applied Kinesiology enables practitioners to monitor the energy field of the body. Using a simple series of muscle tests, it is possible to find where the imbalances are in the body. These muscular imbalances can then be assessed to determine whether the fault is structural, chemical, emotional activity, or an energy blockage.

The body can be stressed in different ways, and each affects the other.

  • Physical stresses affect our mental, chemical, and energy balance.
  • Chemicals can poison us, causing physical and mental disturbances.
  • Negative mental thoughts can cause sickness and pain
  • Our energies are stressed by electromagnetic waves.
  • Thermal stress can affect everything.

The relationship between these factors is crucial in understanding disease. It is important therefore to consider the effects each have on the other when treating.

In this way Applied Kinesiology can bring your whole system back into balance. It can be preventative, even before physical symptoms become evident.

Bach Flower Remedies

Used in conjunction with any other therapy or stand alone, they really are one of nature’s wonders.

The principle behind these remedies is that every disorder – physical or psychological – arises because of an inner imbalance for which nature has provided a cure in the form of healing plants that work well on emotional problems. Each remedy is associated with a basic human emotion. Mimulus, for example, is the remedy for when we are anxious or afraid about something specific. Taking the remedy helps us overcome our fear and face it with courage. There are 38 remedies in the Bach remedy system. All of them were discovered in the 1920s and 1930s by Dr Edward Bach, a well-known bacteriologist, physician and pathologist.

The remedies to be described are beneficent in action, and cause no aggravation nor reaction for their effect is to uplift”

– Dr Edward Bach, 1930

CranioSacral Therapy

The craniosacral system (cranio means head and sacral refers to the area at the base of the spine) includes the brain and spinal cord. They are bathed in a craniosacral fluid that has a rhythmic pulse, similar to blood pressure. This is an extremely gentle treatment and suitable (and very beneficial to) babies. Restrictions in the fluid are believed to be the cause of poor health, especially conditions related to the brain, spine, and nervous system.  More Info.
